Gilchrist County Release Records
A Gilchrist County jail release means the Sheriff's Office stopped holding the person under that booking. It does not always mean freedom from all custody. Someone may leave on bond, after dismissal, with time served, at the end of a county sentence, or under another court order. The same booking can close because the person was transferred to the Florida Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody.
The event controls the next search. GCSO keeps the county booking and release record. The Gilchrist County Clerk keeps the case events that may explain the legal basis. FDOC records a state-prison admission, transfer, release, or supervision event. Federal agencies keep their own records. A name disappearing from a live roster only proves that the name is not in that view. It does not identify the release type or destination.

A transfer closes the Gilchrist County booking but is not a community release. Follow the named receiving agency.

During research, a card marked Status: Released displayed identity data, a booking number, booking and release times, age and demographic fields, address, arresting agency, bond data, charge details, court, and a booking photograph. The portal can confirm the public release timestamp, yet the closing record remains the stronger source for the reason and destination.
Request Gilchrist County Release Records
GCSO identifies Rebecca Groom as its Public Records Custodian. Requests may be sent to GCSO Records and Human Resources at records@gcso.us, by phone at (352) 440-7361, or by mail to GCSO, Attn: Public Records, 9239 South U.S. Highway 129, Trenton, FL 32693. The jail line is (352) 463-3490. A focused request helps staff locate the right booking without asking the agency to create a record that does not exist.
- Search SmartWEB by the person's name and a narrow release-date range. Save the booking number and exact release time.
- Identify the person, date of birth if known, booking number, and date range in the request.
- Ask for the booking/release record, release or transfer code with its description, destination if maintained, and the tied booking photograph.
- Request an electronic copy and a cost estimate before work that may create a charge.
- If material is withheld or redacted, ask for the legal basis. If a code appears, ask for the legend needed to read it.
Florida Statutes section 119.07 sets the default copy framework: up to 15 cents for a one-sided page, 5 cents more for a two-sided copy, actual cost for other formats, and up to one dollar for certification. Extensive use can support a reasonable special-service charge. GCSO does not publish a single guaranteed turnaround for every request, so ask for an estimate.
Gilchrist Release Access Limits
Florida Chapter 119 favors access to nonexempt records made or received in official business. Release data can still contain protected parts. Juvenile material, active investigative content, medical facts, protected addresses, and sealed or expunged records may be withheld or redacted under applicable law. Remote court access can also be narrower than access available to a party or at the courthouse.
Florida sealing and expunction are court processes, not instant deletion requests. Sections 943.059 and 943.0585 govern qualifying orders. Gilchrist Clerk guidance calls for an FDLE Certificate of Eligibility before a petition, and that certificate alone is not an order. A lawful order may explain why an online result is missing. Never infer that a named person has a sealed or expunged matter from a no-hit.
Florida's GS2 retention schedule supplies a useful floor for certain county detention records. Booking Records and Commitment and Release Lists carry a minimum of one anniversary year after release; Jail Docket Books have permanent retention. Those rules do not promise that every optional field exists or that a public web portal stays online for the full retention term.
Gilchrist Releases and Pretrial Custody
FDOC's October 2025 county-detention report recorded an average daily population of 61 at Gilchrist County Jail. Of that average, 75.4 percent was pretrial, including 44 felony-pretrial detainees and two misdemeanor-pretrial detainees. This helps explain why bond and court action can drive many custody exits.
The first two figures are a monthly average and share, not a count of yearly bookings or releases. They should not be used to estimate how many people left custody on a given day.
Property After Gilchrist County Release
Florida GS2 Item 53 recognizes that incarceration records may include receipts for money or property accepted for safekeeping, receipts for items returned at release, and transfer orders showing how property moved. A person disputing returned property can ask GCSO Records for the maintained receipt or transfer record tied to the booking. The schedule describes possible record contents. It does not prove that every listed form exists for every booking.

- If the county record indicates an FDOC transfer, use the current-population search until FDOC records an actual release. For a past FDOC discharge, use Inmate Release Information Search.
- Check the Gilchrist Clerk docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, warrant, or release-order events.
- Use VINE for a current or recently released record and optional custody-event alerts. Confirm the reporting agency.
- Use BOP, a federal docket, or ICE only when the facts indicate federal or immigration custody.
- When a public interface does not answer the question, request the maintained release record from the custodian.
A released person may leave a current roster. Search the released-booking record before treating the missing name as proof.

FDOC Gilchrist Release Search
FDOC maintains four searches that answer different questions. The Inmate Population search covers current state prisoners. Inmate Release Information covers people released or scheduled for release from FDOC. Supervised Population covers state supervision. Absconder/Fugitive covers a reported failure to remain available for FDOC supervision. A county-jail-only term and county probation do not belong in those FDOC populations.

An FDOC detail can show the DC number, photograph, release status, and date. It does not cover a person whose only sentence was in Gilchrist County Jail.
Gilchrist Release Court Records
Gilchrist divides felony cases into Circuit Court and misdemeanors or criminal traffic into County Court. The Clerk directs anonymous users to county endpoint 21 in the CiviTek public system. That division matters after a current custody entry disappears because a bond order, dismissal, sentence, release order, probation order, or warrant event may remain in the docket.

A court order can precede physical release, and a docket entry can post later. Pair it with the custodian's timestamp.
Gilchrist Post-Release Supervision
A person outside confinement can remain under probation, conditional release, parole, or another form of supervision. FDOC's Supervised Population Information Search is the public check for state supervision. It may show the type, status, office, location, and termination information. FDOC reports weekly full refreshes, with termination dates and location changes updated nightly. Same-day instructions still come from the supervising office and the person's order.
Gilchrist County is in Community Corrections Region 2, Circuit 8. FDOC lists local office 081 in Trenton and the Gainesville Circuit Office. A nearby office does not prove that every released county detainee reports there. County probation is outside the FDOC database, and the court may name a different provider.
Modern Florida prison release should not be called parole without checking the record. Parole is a discretionary release status that remains available only in narrower offense-date and statutory situations. Many current releases instead reflect sentence expiration, conditional release, or probation to follow.
Gilchrist Release Alerts and Federal Records

The program is a notification layer, not a legal release certificate or a long-term archive. Confirm a county event with GCSO and an FDOC event with FDOC. For a person committed to federal prison, the BOP Inmate Locator can show a release date and that the person is not in BOP custody. That phrase does not rule out supervision or another agency's custody. The U.S. Marshals Service handles many federal prisoners before and during court proceedings but has no comparable public nationwide locator.
ICE's locator covers current detainees and, under current guidance, people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. It does not search people under 18. Exact spelling and data timing matter. A GCSO transfer to immigration custody is not the same as release to the community.
Gilchrist Immigration Release Follow-Up
ICE's Jacksonville check-in office expressly lists Gilchrist County within its service area. The office is at 13077 Veveras Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32258, with telephone (904) 288-4600 and posted check-in hours Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a contact and check-in layer. It is not proof that GCSO has an ICE detention contract or that a named person was transferred.
Use the ICE channel only when a release record, court event, or other reliable source points there. After the locator's recent-release period ends, the lack of a result cannot resolve an older event.

Use the Active Gilchrist Jail
The active Gilchrist County Jail is at 9239 South U.S. Highway 129 in Trenton. The Old Gilchrist County Jail at 313 Northwest Second Street is a different property. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in January 2024 and is not an active custody or release site.
Direct records requests, release confirmation, and call-ahead questions to GCSO at the active Highway 129 location. The historic address should not be used for a pickup or jail inquiry.
Gilchrist Release Facility Map
Four facilities form the local release map. Each has a distinct population and record route.
- Gilchrist County Jail holds local adult detainees and qualifying county sentences. GCSO records its releases and transfers.
- Lancaster Correctional Institution is an FDOC state prison. FDOC confirms a release, discharge, or transfer.
- Lancaster Work Camp is an FDOC satellite unit. Movement to another FDOC site is not release.
- Alachua Regional Juvenile Detention Center serves Gilchrist youth through DJJ. Juvenile confidentiality limits public access, and adult GCSO or FDOC searches are not substitutes.
